    Kennydale – A residential Renton lakeside neighborhood

    Kennydale | A place on the lake to put down roots

    Residents of Kennydale are having a hard time continuing to keep their neighborhood a secret.

    The lakeside community in northeast Renton has flown under the radar with flashier Eastside areas garnering more attention.

    Not anymore. Kennydale is now home to the Virginia Mason Athletic Center, the new Seattle Seahawks training facility that opened this summer for the Seahawks and public viewing of their practices.

    Additionally, The Landing, an upscale urban village with shopping, restaurants, a movie theater and apartments, is remaking the landscape just south of Kennydale’s border.

    More new businesses at The Landing in Renton grand opening this Spring

    Nine new dining, retail and service tenants are set to open at The Landing in north Renton beginning this fall and into 2009.

    As exterior construction begins to wrap-up, the heart of The Landing is taking shape. A grand opening is scheduled for this spring.

    “Å“The Landing is becoming a neighborhood with its own unique identity,” said Bob Baker, a partner at Harvest Partners, the developer of The Landing. “Å“The Landing is a key to making South Lake Washington a walkable neighborhood where people can meet friends, grab a bite to eat and shop.”  Continued…  Nine new tenants for The Landing; grand opening this spring  -Renton Reporter

    The Seahawks take possession in Renton

    The 12th Man flag firmly planted in Renton

    I’ve experienced the grand cathedrals of England, meant to inspire awe in both visitor and the faithful.

    That’s happening right now, in Renton, on the shores of Lake Washington. Only this, one might argue, is a cathedral to football.

    No it’s not some grand stadium, where there’s not bad seat in the house. And, some might argue, it’s just a place for people to work in an office and for big men to get ready for their jobs on Sunday.

    But it is grand, just the same, and just a bit disorienting in his sheer size. Everything is big, right down to the “Å“school desks” meant to fit a linebacker.

    This week, the public and media got some of the first views of the inside of the new Seattle Seahawks headquarters and practice facility ““ the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in north Renton.

    The Seahawks have taken the keys to their new facility. The big moving day is coming up and the players got a taste of the new facilities in a practice on Wednesday. Practices will resume in Kirkland and the fans will have to wait until next season to sit on a grassy berm and watch their team practice.
