School district to renovate bus center
The final construction project funded by a Renton School District 2003 bond will kick off on the last day of school, this Friday.
The project is a renovation of the district Transportation Center, on North Fourth Street downtown.
The center was built in 1947 and has been in need of major repair for many years. The renovations will provide more bay space for bus maintenance and increased storage for parts; a larger, more secure fueling station; office space and driver preparation spaces; and better layout of parking spaces for buses.
The job is scheduled to take about a year and will include temporarily moving 35 of the district’s fleet of 90 buses from the Transportation Center to a gravel area near the Renton Center Fred Meyer, near the district administrative offices. The remaining 60 buses will stay at the Transportation Center. Continued… School District to renovate bus center -Renton Reporter

It took a couple tries, but the $150 million construction bond to support Renton School District has now been officially approved by voters.
King County Elections certified the May 20 election results last week.
“Å“I couldn’t be more excited,” said Dr. Mary Alice Heuschel, Renton School District superintendent. “Å“It’s just a reflection of the support the Renton community gives to public education. It’s fabulous. It’s the reason I love my job.”
The measure was approved by 61.67 percent of voters. A 60-percent supermajority was required. Just over 16,000 people cast ballots, or about 31 percent of registered voters. About 3,200 more voters cast a ballot in May than during the March 11 election, when the district was short by just 78 “Å“yes” votes. Seventy-one percent more voters voted “Å“yes” in May than March.
“Å“It is really good to see these numbers of voters increase the way they did,” said Randy Matheson, district spokesperson.
Especially when other school districts failed to pass similar bonds. Of 15 Washington school districts, Renton was one one of the few successes. Continued… $150M construction bond to go to work for Renton schools in ‘09 – Emily Garland, Renton Reporter

Quality of schools is top priority for many real estate buyers. The May 20th, 2008 School Building Bond Measure will help keep our schools running for our students and our community.
Throughout the year, school buildings everyday host more than 1,000 students, about 100 teachers and support staff, along with countless parents, community members and business visitors. That’s a lot of wear and tear on a structure. And, like homes and businesses, schools need constant upkeep and periodic replacement of roofs, boilers, heating and ventilation systems and other infrastructure.
That’s what is on the May 20th ballot for Renton School District voters: A chance to make significant and needed improvements at our schools. Now is the time to approve this measure: waiting will cost us far more in construction costs. Thanks to the impressive economic development efforts by the City of Renton to bring businesses and families into our city, the School District will be able to complete the construction projects without raising tax rates, which keeps the tax rate among the lowest in the region.
Let’s keep our schools competitive and in good working condition. Every vote counts on May 20th.
